On The Rocks Theatre Company is the longtime collaboration of Christopher Ford & Dakota Rose. Together they hand-make highly visual, theatrical worlds that explore story and structure through the subversion of genre, style and theatre history–with the ultimate hope of celebrating Drama as an art form and facing the ever more pressing question: “why bother making plays anymore, anyway?”

Writers with backgrounds in design, they build story visually–constructing plot and play-world in tandem in order to bake design into the narrative itself.

Original work includes McBeth (2010), Wolfert (2015), The White Stag Quadrilogy (2016), FRED (2017), The Beastiary (2024) and their annual holiday pageant Edelweiss.  OTR has been commissioned by Ars Nova and Dixon Place. They are recipients of the 2024-25 Tow Foundation Playwright-in-Residence grant and their designs have been nominated for Drama Desk and Lortel Awards.
